Asus Launches Snapdragon X Zenbook A14

Asus Launches Snapdragon X Zenbook A14

January 7, 2024 — ASUS today announced the groundbreaking Zenbook A14 (UX3407) — the lightest 14-inch Copilot+ PC on the market, and also the first all-Ceraluminum™ ASUS laptop. Zenbook A14 is also the first Zenbook model powered by the latest Snapdragon® X Series AI-enabled processors.

Weighing in at under 1 kg, Zenbook A14 sets the new benchmark for ultraportable Copilot+ PCs. Its elegant, lightweight design is ideal for frequent travelers, allowing them to move effortlessly without being weighed down by their tech. The chassis is crafted entirely from our innovative Ceraluminum, a sumptuously tactile material that’s 30% lighter and three times stronger than anodized aluminum. This advanced material ensures durability and portability, making it ideal for everyday use. The nature-inspired color palette adds a sophisticated touch to the minimalist looks, aligning with the Zenbook tradition of timeless design.

The mag alloy chassis also receives one of Asus’ coolest design touches: its Ceraluminum finish, which covers the metal chassis and lid with a tough but stylish layer of protection. The result of a complex physical and chemical treatment process, the finish gets its name for its ceramic-like feel and matte finish while resisting scratches and scuffs.

The keyboard on this Zenbook A14 is a traditional Asus layout, with properly sized and spaced-out main keys, and a smaller row of function keys at the top, plus smaller directional keys. However, the feel of this keyboard and the overall feedback is a little different than on other Zenbooks, something you can tell by only having these side by side as I do here.

The keycaps are made out of plastic, but with a coating that’s supposed to resist smudging better than on other Zenbooks, and that makes these keys a little more slippery than both on the regular 14 and S14 keyboards. That aside, the overall feedback and travel distance are quite close to the regular 14-inch Zenbooks, and should be more appreciated by most users than the feedback on the Zenbook S 14, whose keys are shallower and only travel 1.1 mm deep. In comparison, these keys on the A14 travel 1.3mm, while the keys on the regular 14s travel 1.4 mm.

The processor is paired with up to 32GB of memory, 1TB of solid-state storage, and an assortment of connectivity, like Wi-Fi 6E, dual USB4 ports, and HDMI 2.1. A gorgeous 14-inch OLED panel with 1,920-by-1,200-pixel (1200p) resolution delivers stunning clarity with deep contrast. (Notably, it’s not nearly as sharp as the MacBook Air’s 1600p display.)The svelte Zenbook A14 is also powered by a 70Wh battery, which can last up to 32 hours for productivity or leisure, according to Asus, so you’ll rarely need to carry the compact wall charger.

The Asus Zenbook A14 will launch next week with a $1,099 price tag, but a cheaper model with Snapdragon X Plus will begin selling in March at the much more affordable price of $899. We look forward to reviewing either model with a whole gauntlet of benchmarks and seeing how it compares with the MacBook Air.
